EnduraTuf | Toughened Glass

EnduraTuf is specified due to its increased strength, allowing it to resist impacts, wind loads and temperature gradients. EnduraTuf is also known as tempered glass.

EnduraTuf is a Grade A Safety Glass that is easily identifiable in its broken state. This is from its characteristic small dice sized particles of glass which significantly reduce the risk of severe injury and deep lacerations.

The toughening process involves heating of the glass to a very high temperature and then rapidly cooling by blasting air on the surface. This creates high compression stresses in the glass surface which are balanced by tensile stresses in the centre. The compressive stresses press any surface flaws closed preventing crack migration and glass failure.

The toughened glass surface is not as hard as annealed glass, and so manufacturers often apply coatings and/or laminates to the surface of the glass. Toughened glass must have all its finishing work (e.g. holes, chamfers and polishing) undertaken prior to the process of toughening being undertaken.

PERFORMANCE/SPECIFYING

EnduraTuf is a toughened glass product and has the options of being heat soaked and laminated. Heat soaking will expose any Nickel Sulphide inclusions in the glass and reduce the chances of spontaneous breakage.

EnduraTuf can be used in combination with other Woods Glass products like ceramic frit (Keramo) and low-e glass (Infinit E). All glass must be engineered to specific code and design, please contact Woods Glass to find out more information.

CLEANING/MAINTENANCE

Normally when cleaning glass, a vinegar-based glass cleaner or mild dish soap and water with a soft, lint-free cloth or paper products is recommended. A squeegee or soft cloth may be carefully used to dry the glass and help avoid water spots.

It is not recommended to use petroleum-based cleaners or solvents as they can streak the glass and weaken the seal between the glass and frame. Avoid washing in direct sunlight to reduce streaking on the glass.

Never use razor blades, steel wool, putty knives or abrasive pads as they may damage the glass, particularly on toughened glass.

RANGE

Many different thicknesses and tints are available for EnduraTuf. Some options are clear, bronze, blue, green, grey, red and white. Woods are able to supply many more colours so please contact us to discuss special requirements.

SPECIFICATION

We recommend using Masterspec 4611WG Woods Glass Exterior Glazing when specifying this system.
